Review: Life After Theft By: Aprilynne Pike

Life After TheftLife After Theft by Aprilynne Pike
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Jeff Clayson is new in town. The new boy at a very privileged private school filled with perfect or practically perfect teens that drive BMWs, live in "mastles" (mansion/castle combo), have private beaches. A few years ago Kimberlee Schaffer died, yet she has been wandering around the halls of the school waiting for a chance to make things right. Kimberlee died with a secret that she was a klepto and took the most valuable of things from the people around her, with a cave full of these items - she has finally found a helper that just might release her from being earthbound. Jeff begins to help and uncovers just how ugly a person Kimberlee was and it doesn't help having her hover when he is falling for a girl she made her personal target.
These teens are reminiscent of the Sweet Valley High perfect teens, even down to the bullying - too saccharine to enjoy, too fake to care.
There was a depth within the characters that was found lacking which is surprising since the Wings books were one of my favorite. This is advertised to be a "clever twist on The Scarlet Pimpernel" - apparently no one read The Scarlet Pimpernel or chooses to insult Baroness Orczy.
A quick beach mindless read.
